Join us for a private artist-led tour of Fidencio Fifield-Perez’s solo exhibition at Highpoint Center for Printmaking. Fidencio will guide us through his exhibition, which examines borders, edges, and the people who must traverse them. Fifield-Perez was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, but raised in the U.S. after his family migrated. In order to qualify for DACA, he began collecting maps and envelopes in order to investigate and report to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) about his entry into the U.S.. In his work, Fifield-Perez’s interdisciplinary practice centers the materiality of paper ephemera, everyday self-documents discarded after having fulfilled their purpose. His work includes painting, printing, and collage. Fifield-Perez received his BFA from Memphis College of Art and an MA & MFA from The University of Iowa and is currently the inaugural Dr. Harold R. Adams Artist-in-Residence Fellow at The University of Minnesota.

Explore the studio of Minneapolis-Based visual artist Alison Hiltner. Her practice explores how science fiction cinema influences our current understanding of scientific research and how that filter of knowledge will affect technological advancement in the future. This examination takes the form of multimedia installation and interactive display. Sections of the piece We Have Merely Been Detected will be up in her studio for guests to experience during the studio visit. Most recently, Hiltner received the 2021 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and a solo exhibition at UCLA Art | Sci Center in Los Angeles. She also has an upcoming exhibition at the Weisman Art Museum in early 2024, and a project with Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in 2025.

Take a look behind the scenes with us at the Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC). MACC is a non-profit organization that focuses on the preservation and conservation of art and artifacts, providing treatment, education, and training for museums, historical societies, libraries, other cultural institutions, artists, and the public. We will connect with a few of their highly specialized conservators and take a look at pieces that are in all stages of the conservation process. MACC has been a longtime partner of WAM and we cannot wait to share this customized, behind-the-scenes tour with you.

Come take a private studio tour with Hend Al-Mansour, and get a glimpse of work-in-progress as well as finished pieces. Born and raised in Saudi Arabia before immigrating to the U.S., Al-Mansour's practice reflects a blend of influences. She writes: "Despite restrictions on depicting human forms in Saudi Arabia, I was drawn to figurative drawing and painting and fascinated by Modern Western artists. At the same time, in my daily life, I was immersed in Islamic art aesthetics, Arabic calligraphy, and local women's artistic traditions like henna patterns, Sadu design, and Qutt art."
Her work highlights the power of women, placing stylized figures in the center of a background of Arabic calligraphy, Islamic geometric design-work, traditional hues and materials. Al-Mansour’s media includes installation, screen printing, and murals, often in combination. To expand her creative expression, she currently includes 2D animation in her artistic repertoire. She is a member of the Rosalux Gallery in Minneapolis, The Interfaith Artist Circle in the Twin Cities, and the national collective The Habibtis, a group of ten women artists who promote cultural diversity in the US. She earned an MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an MA in Art History from St. Thomas University in St. Paul.
